Here the structure exhibits both the artwork "within" produced by the artists, and the artwork without, being the natural world. As one approaches or passes by , the structure maintains a continuously changing opacity where the desert environment and the core materialize and dematerialize to the viewer. This renders the desert environment as an active participant in terms of exhibition, where it simultaneously frames the structure and is framed by it as a work of art.
Space and people filter through the field of timber elements towards the art that is nested within the rammed earth core of the structure. The timber elements touch the earth lightly and the rammed earth core of the space is made of the same soil as the surrounded desert. This responds to the site in terms of building economy and sustainability and it generates an osmosis of light and space that guide one through a procession

KUMKANG FACADE

Schematic Design Phase
Located in urban South Korea, the aim of this design challenge was to design a façade for an existing plan of two L-shaped towers complex with a base of parking and retail.
Through several rounds of sketching and design, each team member provided a unique solution on how to wrap the buildings.
Option 1 - This option takes the disjointed forms that constitutes these structures and ties them together with a tessellated façade that functions both as a building envelope and allows the building complex to read as a comprehensible composition. This both visually scales the structures and formally ties the complex together.
Option 2 - Here the concept of cutting and folding the skin of the building is applied in accordance with the structure's orthogonal geometry. This concept leans in on the existing form of the structure and seeks to articulate it through the cuts in the envelope.
